Happy Friday...

I know I have been the worst blogger ever, and I’m not even gonna try and make excuses for myself – yes I moved quite recently to another country, yes I have started a new job, yes I am trying to get used to this whole new rhythm, but these are all excuses…after all, where there is a will, there’s a way :)

So much has happened in this past few months! One thing is true – I am always thinking about my blog and my dear readers, and new ideas are always bubbling in my mind :)

Well, this promises to be an amazing weekend – one of my best friends and I are flying to London for a bit of a shopping spree followed by meals with gorgeous friends I miss oh so much!

I just can’t wait to walk up and down London streets, checking what has been happening fashion-wise :)

And because it’s cold and dark outside, nothing like colourful, edgy, fun, adventurous, sexy clothes/shoes to cheer us up: like these amazing multi-coloured Charlotte Olympia’s pumps! She is quickly becoming one of my favourite designers when it comes to shoes, her designs tick all the boxes: feminine, glamorous, edgy, absolutely divine!

Don’t you just love it when all you need is skinny jeans, a tank top, a blazer and killer heels to look gorgeous?

Splash of Red...

Contrary to popular belief, the perfect shopping day is not necessarily one where you come back with an absurd number of bags - a perfect shopping day is one where you manage to find the perfect item, an item you know will bring a new life to your wardrobe and will help you create an endless number of outfit combos.

I'm going to tell you about this particular perfect shopping day - I fell in love with this jacket the minute I saw it, for me it ticks all the boxes for what I am looking in a jacket: gorgeous colour, loose unstructured fit, casual enough and smart enough. Almost instantly I could see myself wearing it over a t-shirt and denim shorts, over a tank top and a maxi skirt, over a maxi dress, over a cocktail dress… A world of opportunities ;)

For dinner in a wonderful Thai restaurant with very good friends, I decided to pair this new-found favourite with another recent purchase that has also quite quickly become a favourite. There really isn't anything that special about this dress but I just love it - the print, the loose fit that still allows you to show some curves, the length that allows you to wear it as a dress or as a top paired with skinny trousers or leggings, I just love its versatility ;)

Grumpy Monday...

It doesn’t really matter how much you love your job, if you had a wonderful weekend or a terrible one, if you have big plans for the week ahead – none of this really matters, because Monday will never ever be an easy day. For some reason, even people who always manage to wake up with a big fat smile in their faces, even those people feel a little bit grumpy and resent Mondays, that’s just the way things are.

And there are a billion things you can try and do to deal with this grumpiness – some people start planning next weekend, some have a proper “hotel’s breakfast”, some simply listen to their favourite music, some don’t waste time trying to deal with the grumpiness and instead just face it point blank, etc

My very own suggestion? Dressing up! Just think about the one moment when you feel happy, relaxed, like all the stars are duly aligned, like nothing can really spoil your mood - when you’re dressing up for a night’s out with your friends! Am I right? You play one of favourite albums, whilst you choose every item of your outfit ever so carefully, then you do your make up, you choose your accessories, and while you’re doing all that you manage to forget about the real world, only you matter during that hour – that’s why I always try and recreate all those happy feelings every single Monday.

So, here it is, my suggestion for your next grumpy Monday – a gorgeous crochet top with a little bit of sparkling for a touch of boldness, adventure, fierceness; a beautiful green skirt with a different hem; animal print flats for some fun; a XL handbag; and nothing but a watch as an accessory J Now you’re ready to face your Monday J

Indian Summer...

This has been the craziest October in Lisbon ever – all of the sudden, the city has been experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures reaching numbers higher than those in August. On one hand, you can’t help but think about worrying things, such as global warming, on the other hand you do feel happy – there is nothing quite like a beautiful sunny day to make you feel happy and instantly put you in a good mood J

And although I am starting to dream with my winter wardrobe, I love the fact that it is already autumn and we are still wearing shorts and summer dresses!

This was a gorgeous Sunday - all I wanted was a relaxing day, a nice lunch, good company and simply enjoy the gorgeous weather! So, two very good friends of mine and I drove to Sesimbra, for a “fabulastic” seafood meal paired with a delicious sangria, overlooking the sea – absolutely idyllic J And it was exactly what I ordered for that Sunday, good food, exceptional company and amazing weather.

For a day like this, I decided to go for something really casual, fresh, feminine, something that absolutely screamed “Summer is still here!” – I am so in love with this skirt (which, by the way, I wore as a strapless dress with a belt and totally worked ;)). It is simple, yet special, with a gorgeous colour. And for a little bit of something, I decided to go for a mismatch, pairing the skirt with a striped tee – don’t you think that striped tees are the “it” item for Summer? And because all I wanted was comfort, comfort, comfort, I finished up the look with golden flat sandals – it’s like walking barefoot J

Casual Friday...

I know exactly what Casual Friday means to most people - a permission to wear jeans for work! I used to think exactly like that, I couldn't wait for Friday to arrive, not only for the obvious reason that it meant weekend was just some hours away, but also because it was the day I would wear jeans and most likely flats, the day I was allowed to dress as I would normally if I wasn't working. Well, things have changed - I now find myself rejecting more and more the idea of wearing jeans for work.

The way I see it, Casual Friday is the day when you are allowed to play a little bit more with your outfit, be a little bit bolder, push some bounderies, whilst still looking professional, smart and sophisticated!

So, here is my inspiration for this Friday -  a pair of loose, boyfriendish trousers, comfy but very elegant; a ladylike blouse with a beautiful neckline; colourful bangles and studs for a little bit of colour block and a fun vibe; gorgeous pumps that make you feel stunningly powerful; a clutch to contrast with the XL handbag you usually carry to work, and give a je ne sais quoi element to the whole outfit.

What I love most about this outfit? It is perfect for work and perfect for drinks with friends after work :)

Miu Miu...

Time for a little confession  - whenever I'm feeling a little bit down, uninspired, under pressure, there are a few things I always resort to in order to calm myself, think clearer or simply cheer myself up. One of those things, and I am not ashamed to say, is to surf through my favourite fashion websites - I just love spending some me-time looking at clothes, shoes, handbags, imagining all sorts of combinations I would do, making several wish lists, dreaming about my perfect wardrobe. Call it silly, shallow, childish, whatever you like, but it just makes me happy and allows me to empty my mind and start from scratch. And to tell you the truth, it is nice to take refuge in this shallow world and forget for a moment all the problems the real world has thrown at you.

Well, the other day I was having a not so good day, so there I was, scrolling up and down my favourite sites doing my thing, creating my winter shoes wish list, when I realised all my choices belonged to the same designer, Miu Miu.

Honestly, it's hard to describe how beautiful their 2011 Fall/Autumn shoe collection is - elegant, edgy, original, feminine, absolutely gorgeous. Those are the kind of shoes that will make you feel stylish, powerful, sexy and ready to face anything and anyone (yes, shoes can really do that for you ;)).

So, here are my favourite designs:

Glitter and suede peep-toe ankle boots

Bow-embellished patent-leather pumps

Muses Part I...

All my life I have been oh so lucky to be surrounded by gorgeous, powerful women, who have always been an inspiration to me - beautiful women inside and out, with different personalities, who always made me want to be a better person. They all see the world in different colours, but they are the living proof of kindness, friendship, love, loyalty :)

Why Part I? Because today I will show you some of my muses, the rest will follow in future chapters :)

This was a wonderful occasion - the birthday of one of my best friends :) And because she is very very special to us all, we decided to travel to Algarve for her Bday dinner, even if that meant going on a Sunday to get back to Lisbon on Monday morning. She sure deserved that, and let's be honest, we all had a blast, the whole weekend was absolutely great :)

And there we were, eating, drinking, talking, laughing, dancing, just having one of those moments that make you feel blessed :) And I just kept thinking, I must take some photos (better yet, Hubby must take some photos), it was about time I showed you guys where I get my inspiration.

So, just for you dear followers, my muses:

*Jacquie*

Believe it or not, at the time this photo was taken, Jacquie had given birth to the most beautiful baby girl just 3 months before - although you would never tell so by her amazing figure, right? What I love most about her outfit? Her perfect pair of jeans - we all love jeans, but let's face it, it is a bit of a struggle to find a pair of jeans that look just flawless, absolutely perfect in your legs, bum and even tummy :) The green top and the pretty orange sandals added an hint of colour, and completed the whole look :)

*Olga*

Guys, it is my pleasure to introduce to you my beautiful cousin - suffice to say that I love her style, but it is not a style everybody can pull off. Feminine, elegant, laid back, with a hint of boho chic, she always looks spot on! Plus, she has the most gorgeous collection of maxi dresses and little girly dresses. Case in point, this little black dress, perfect for a Summer garden party ;)

*Cláudia, the Birthday Girl*

Or as I see her, my little Beyonce - she is gorgeously curvaceous with a tiny waist, and I love how she embraces her body and shows us her inspiring curves. Her style? Very eclectic, she will wear a body-hugging dress as easily as she would wear a loose shirt with jeans or leggings. Not much of a heels-lover, she is the proof that a woman can look chic and fashionable with flats :) And she loves colour, which is always a big plus on my book ;)

*Cristina*

You remember Cris, from my second post on Street Wisdom - tell me the truth, didn't she look absolutely beautiful? Well, she got engaged the previous night, so you can imagine how excited we all were. On Claudia's Birthday she opted for a beautiful girly colourful dress - she looked effortlessly stylish, and I actually love the fact that she didn't wear any accessories, it was all about the dress and the beautiful engagement ring :)

The gender from Mars...

For some time now, my gorgeous male friends have been asking me to post something on mens' fashion and although I loved the idea for the very first moment I heard it, and felt a little bit flattered that they really wanted to hear my advice, it took me a while to actually get the nerve to do so - what do I know about mens' fashion? Absolutely zero! But then again, what do I know about women's fashion? Shall never forget the purpose of this blog -  a space where I get to share my humble opinion on things I love with you wonderful people that spend some of your time reading them :)

So, with that on mind, no longer shall I procrastinate - and although woman are from Venus and men are from Mars, we are not that different after all. We all want to look our very best, even if men try and pretend they manage to do so in under five minutes - and it is wonderful to see how much things have changed, and how mentalities are changing. I don't care for names such as metrosexual, never will understand our need to tag everyone and everything, I just love the idea of a man who looks after himself, who takes care choosing the clothes he wears, who knows words such as "moisturizer", "exfoliator", "facial", "manicure", after all, why should us women be the only ones to deal with skin, nails and whatnot problems?

And for my very first post dedicated to my male readers, I have decided to talk about basics - those key items every man should have in his wardrobe to make sure he will always look elegant and stylish, no matter the occasion, no matter what!

(1) The white shirt - just like the little black dress for women, the white shirt is your best friend; Simple, elegant, absolutely hot, you can always count on it, day or night, formal or casual, Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring!

Gucci Slim Fit Cotton Shirt

(2) The Blazer - and by blazer I mean blazer, not a suit's jacket; versatile and stylish, a blazer is a must-have, you can pair it with almost anything and it usually adds the "it" factor to an outfit. Again, perfect for any time of the day, for any occasion, for any season. Remember your white shirt? Just throw a jeans and a blazer and you will look effortless chic!

Reiss Mens Lapel Blazer Lux Grey

(3) The Dark Jeans - we all know how wonderful jeans are, none of us could ever live without at least a pair in our wardrobe, and let's face it, nowadays we all have several pairs, in different shades. However, if there is one shade that you absolutely must have is dark blue. Why? Because it is a little bit more formal, and for that reason it is the one shade that will give you an endless number of combinations, will never make you look overdressed or, worst, underdressed!

Ted Baker New Classic Fit Jean

(4) The Plain T-Shirt - trust me, I am a big fan of colourful t-shirts, filled with cartoons and prints, actually the most colourful t-shirts the Hubby owns, I bought them for him. However, there is nothing like a plain black, grey or white T-shirt. Classy, hip, stylish, these colours will always be there for you. Going out for dinner at the new hot restaurant in town? Going for this art opening? Meeting the in-laws? Black t-shirt+dark jeans+blazer, gorgeous combo :)

H&M T-Shirt

(5) The Cardigan - far more interesting and sophisticated than a sweater, perfect for workwear, perfect for evening wear, perfect to keep you warm and stylish during winter, perfect for those windy summer nights; gorgeous with a plain t-shirt, wonderful with a shirt, absolutely fabulous with a shirt and a tie! They are the perfect item to add some colour to your outfit, go crazy and buy them in different colours, different fabrics, with different necklines, trust me, they will prove priceless :)

H&M Fine-Knit Cardigan

(6) The Bag - let me be brutally honest with you guys, after the age of 18, unless you are going camping or someother activity outdoors, a backpack cannot be your choice of accessory to carry your things around. Not stylish, not sexy, simply put, not cool! And nowadays there are so many alternatives, that you really need to stop hiding behind the silly justification "that's a girl thing!". Shoulder bag, messenger bag, holdall bag, you are really spoilt for choices! A simple leather messenger bag, elegant, fashionable and practical :)

Zara Leather Mini Messenger Bag

(7) The Card Holder - my dear friends, better yet, my dear male friends, have you ever noticed how whenever your friend/girlfriend/wife/sister/mother is getting ready for an evening out, she always spend a good ten minutes struggling to fit everything she needs in a tiny clutch? You guys, instead, take your big chunky wallets with you, and as soon as you get to the restaurant/theatre/club, if it is just the two of you, you insist with her to try and fit your wallet in the tiny clutch or, in case you are in a group, you look for the girl with the biggest handbag and ask her to keep your wallet? Let me tell you, it is so not fair! We too do not wish to carry your big chuncky wallet! So, the perfect solution - a credit card holder that allows you to carry some cards and some money, which you can place in your own pockets :)

WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie Leather Card Holder with Money Clip

(8) The Scarf - other than for the obvious reason of "warmth" during winter, a scarf is the perfect accessory to add a "je ne sais quoi" factor to your outfit. It allows you to add some colour to your outfit, to add a funky element to a formal outfit, and they give a whole other energy to your ensemble :)

Alexander McQueen Skull Print Scarf

(9) The Black Dress Shoes - I don't like the idea of "fashion rules", I am no big on stereotypes, and I believe fashion should be absolutely whimsical. Notwithstanding, I do believe every man should own a pair of black dress shoes. I know it sounds boring and not very interesting, but the word that really matters is versatile - shoes are a crucial element in an outfit, they can either complement it perfectly or ruin it altogether.

Reiss 3 Lace Formal Derby Black

(10) The Dark Suit - a well cut, perfectly fitted dark suit is an essential piece in every man's wardrobe; Synonym of elegance and sophistication, a dark suit is highly versatile and you will definitely look sharp wearing one :)

Dolce&Gabbana Martini Two Button Suit
